Cooking time

Cooking is a terribly long process.  Assuming you have all the supplies it still requires a considerable amount of set up, cooking, and cleaning time.

But regardless of the amount of time it takes to cook, food is always consumed quickly and without much afterthought. It could be a $10 slab of steak, some fancy seafood, or something simple as a ham sandwich. It will be forgotten and will simply come out the other end.

Why do we go through with the whole process of carefully preparing things when we won't enjoy it beyond the process of eating which can be as little as a few minutes? In fact we will probably regret the unhealthy choices we made. O_o why don't we just get things over with and consume a decent energy gruel?

This morning I spent a few minutes gathering bread and ham for my lunch.  I ate the sandwich in less than five minutes which served its purpose of reducing hunger.  Was there enjoyment?  The white bread was slightly sweet and incredibly soft.  The ham was salty and cold the way it should be.  It had reasonable texture with a slightly bouncy and meaty texture cushioned between a soft white bread barrier.

In essence, no.  It was just another sandwich.  In fact it was so plain and depressing that I stopped eating it half way through to think about this. Previously I had added chips and other things which did make it more interesting but I did not have those resources here today.
